Recognizing the critical gaps in support for individuals like Bryan when they reach adulthood, Lorena Sinato, Bryan’s mom decided to take action. When Bryan turned 18 years old, Lorena founded a nonprofit organization called “Dance to Shine”, that hosted monthly dance nights for young adults and youths with a disability. These events featured a DJ born with Down Syndrome, offering an inclusive and joyful space for these young adults and youth once a month.
She realized that there was a gap in the system when a person with a disability turns 18. Support is reduced, and there aren’t affordable programs to choose from, especially for complex needs kids like Bryan.
In 2022 Lorena co-founded a non-profit organization called Bryan’s Place, alongside 4 like-minded Mothers, Daniela, Alecsandra, Lorena Ubeda and Maria, with identical interests, to create a vibrant community dedicated to supporting parents of special needs children.
In July 2023, Bryan’s Place became a registered charity. This milestone has ignited Lorena’s excitement for the future, as Bryan’s Place will be capable of growing and supporting the special needs community
with affordable programs such as respite on Sunday afternoons, Day program for those after 21 years old, Moms camp, resources for families, funding and other programs like holiday celebrations.

Our Mother’s Day Brunch was a heartfelt celebration honoring the incredible moms in our community. It was a beautiful moment to recognize the strength, love, and dedication of the mothers who support and inspire us every day.

It was a joyful day that highlighted the strength of our community and the hope we share for a more inclusive future.

Our director Lorena Sinato received from Bhutila Karpoche, MPP Parkdale - High Park, The Recognition as Community Leader at Parkdale-High Park Area on June 5, 2024.
“Lorena Sinato is the loving mother of Bryan, her son, who has multiple disabilities. When Bryan turned 18, Lorena had an idea to create a safe, inclusive space for young disabled adults to socialize, have fun, and feel included in the experiences and opportunities so many of us take for granted. Lorena worked with 4 other moms to create a registered charity organization called Bryan´s Place, where they hosts monthly events for parents, children, youth, and young adults with special needs. Lorena has given so much of her time to help young people with special needs as well as their families, offering support, insight, and endless kindness to anyone and everyone. Making sure caregivers of special needs kids/youth get their deserved break.”
